Wayland Council on Aging project heading to bid March 9
WAYLAND — March 7, 2023 — Wayland's new Council on Aging and Community Center goes out to bid March 9. Vice Chair William Sterling told the board the package hits the street March 15 after department heads gave final feedback on the site plan, and he urged members to write Town Planner Robert Hummel before the March 21 Planning Board hearing to defend the project's 100-space lot, calling reduced parking a "success or fail decision" on the $11 million building. Mary M. Antes reported the Friends of the COA have set aside $100,000 and will solicit 200 to 300 regular donors in case bids come in high. Director Julie said taxi grants averaging $160 per round trip are straining under demand, with the Mardi Gras event drawing 49 attendees and a waitlist of 10.
