Wayland Council on Aging sets June 5 community center opening

WAYLAND — April 14, 2025 — Wayland's Council on Aging locks in a June 5 grand opening for the long-awaited Community Center. Chair Betsy Soule's board heard Monday that construction is essentially complete, the first of three furniture shipments has arrived, and the COA expects to move into 8 Andrew Ave. during the second week of May. Vice Chair William Sterling said Eversource delivered a temporary 150 kVA transformer while a custom 300 kVA unit — doubled in size to feed 10 EV charging stations — is still being built. The opening runs 4 to 8 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 5, container gardening, food trucks and an evening performance by illusionist Lynn Dilley. Member Frank Kennedy pressed for new directional signage, warning the existing "do not enter" signs leave visitors asking, "How do I get in here legally?" Resident Jean urged the board to launch public education on the state's new accessory dwelling unit law.
