Wayland Council on Aging sets June 5 ribbon-cutting for new community center

WAYLAND — May 20, 2025 — Wayland Council on Aging finalizes June 5 grand opening of long-awaited community center. Director Julie Secord told the board a 4 p.m. ribbon-cutting will lead into outdoor inflatables, a Giacomo's pizza stand, a local $10 box supper, Kona Ice and a 7 p.m. illusionist performance already two-thirds reserved. A temporary certificate of occupancy is still pending, and the agency is down "about 60 hours of employment a week" after a retirement and a sudden resignation. Member Frank Kennedy, subbing for absent member Bill Sterling, said an easement snag on the flagpole has been resolved; the Friends need to hit $9,000, with the American Legion and The Village Bank already contributing. The board approved its April 14 minutes unanimously after two minor corrections from member Judy Currier and floated naming the new library after Sterling.
