Council on Aging Board sets June 5 grand opening for new community center
WAYLAND — February 10, 2025 — Wayland's new senior center is on track for a March finish and a June 5 grand opening, but Eversource is the wildcard. Vice Chair William Sterling told the Council on Aging Board that walls are painted, ceilings dropped and lighting installed, but permanent power hinges on a utility he said will only commit to "sometime in the next six months." Sterling also flagged a Fire Department demand for a two-hour-rated radio-relay room he estimated at $20,000, drawn from a high-rise code section he argued does not apply. Director Julie Secord said the Friends have delivered a first $100,000 toward furnishings, with a second vendor list moving to the Select Board. The June 5 opening runs 4 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. illusionist performance capped near 150 by QR-code reservation. The board next meets March 10 via Zoom.
