Wayland Council on Aging hears community center passes blower door test

WAYLAND — September 30, 2025 — Wayland's new net-zero community center cleared its blower door test, putting sheetrock and finish work next on the schedule. Vice Chair William Sterling told the Council on Aging Board on Sept. 30 that roofing and siding should be visibly complete within a week, crediting Tower Construction and detailed drawings for keeping the project on track. Frank Kennedy and Director Julie warned that operational policies — building management, custodial hours, rental rules, AV specs — remain unresolved and must be settled before any public opening, which Kennedy said could otherwise be "quite chaotic." A proposed grand-opening illusionist act would require a 12-by-24-foot stage, raising accessibility-code questions under 521 CMR 14.6. The board also reported the agency's leased van dropped from 16 to 12 seats, received approval for an Uber Central dashboard, and learned round-trip taxi rides to Boston hospitals are running about $200 per person. The next meeting is Oct. 28.
