Wayland Community Center on track for June 5 grand opening

WAYLAND — March 10, 2025 — Wayland's new Community Center is on schedule for a June 5 grand opening, the Council on Aging Board was told March 10. Vice Chair William Sterling, acting as chair, said interior finishes are 95 percent complete and that a roughly three-week delay tied to Eversource permanent power should still leave the building ready. The revised audiovisual package includes a hearing loop with eight receivers; Sterling pushed to keep a hard-wired kitchen camera for cooking demonstrations, arguing "if we don't take it now, we'll never get it." Director Julie Secord previewed a "Discover the Magic" opening with an illusionist headliner, food trucks and a Conservation Commission bird presentation, and announced staff member Anne Gordon will retire April 16. Booking policies, drawn from at least six peer communities, remain unfinished, and an Uber transportation program is stalled over liability coverage.
