Wayland community center passes airtight test, clears finishing milestone

WAYLAND — September 30, 2024 — Wayland's net-zero community center passes airtight test, advancing to interior finishing. Council on Aging Board member William Sterling told the board Sept. 30 that the new building cleared its blower door test Friday, calling it "a major hurdle" that frees Tower Construction to begin sheetrock and finishes; roofing and siding should be done within a week. Chair Betsy Soule said she pressed Town Manager Tom Faye on operational policies, and member Frank Kennedy urged the board to compile its own list for new facilities manager Mike Fayer, who replaces retired Ben Keith. Director Julie flagged a possible Dec. 13 open house featuring an illusionist needing a 12-by-24-foot stage, and reported the council's leased van has dropped from 16 to 12 seats, raising per-rider costs. Members set their next meeting for Oct. 28 at 4:30 p.m.
