Appointing Board fills Finance Committee vacancy with retired attorney Carl Barnes

WAYLAND — October 7, 2024 — Wayland fills Finance Committee vacancy with retired attorney Carl Barnes on a 3-0 vote. The Finance Committee Appointing Board, chaired by Cherry C. Karlson and joined by members Miranda S. Jones and Bill Whitney, appointed Barnes on Monday to a term running through June 30, 2026, filling the seat left open by Jonathan Barnett's resignation. Barnes, a 32-year resident who retired in December after a 40-year legal career, was the only applicant for the opening posted Sept. 10. He told the board he is not a CPA but "absolutely can read a balance sheet and an income statement." Whitney said Barnes's perspective would matter "as we're looking at the possibility of an override in the perhaps not too distant future." The board also approved amended minutes from its Aug. 13 and Aug. 27 meetings.
