Wayland Community Center completion pushed to February 2025
WAYLAND — June 3, 2024 — Wayland's new Community Center is now targeted for completion Feb. 1, 2025. Vice Chair William Sterling and member Frank Kennedy told the Council on Aging Board the project remains on a "very tight" budget after contaminated soil near Route 20 forced shipment to a Maine facility, eating into contingency funds. The Friends of the COA's $100,000 contribution — covering fireplace stonework, an electric fireplace and millwork — has been "folded into the bid set." Director Julie reported a $127,000 MassDOT regional shuttle grant with Sudbury for three-times-daily Boston hospital runs, even as taxi voucher grant funding expires June 30 against new $10-base, $8-per-mile local rates from Tommy's and JFK. Chair Betsy Soule said the Senior Tax Relief Committee remains "in limbo" after a member missed two quarterly meetings. The board next meets Aug. 6 by Zoom.
