WAYLAND — June 3, 2024 — Wayland Council on Aging sets Feb. 1, 2025 completion target for new Community Center. Board member Bill told the board Monday that exterior finishes are approved, Solect's solar array is folded into the construction contract, and the project's contingency still holds — though contaminated soil bound for Maine and unexpected stockpile-handling costs have eroded it. Architect Ben has recommended swapping synthetic fireplace stone for real fieldstone, and all items backed by the Friends of the COA's $100,000 contribution remain in the bid set. Director Julie announced a $127,000 MassDOT regional grant with Sudbury for a thrice-weekly shuttle to Boston hospitals, launching as the COA's taxi voucher program expires June 30 — a gap Julie called "disappointing" given base local taxi fares now starting near $10. The Senior Tax Relief Committee remains "in limbo," Chair Betsy Soule said, after a member missed two quarterly meetings. The board adjourned 8-0 at 5:13 p.m.
