Council on Aging votes to seek $46,252 for community center trail signage

WAYLAND — November 30, 2022 — Wayland Council on Aging votes 6-0 to seek $46,252 from CPC for community center trail signage. The board, meeting Nov. 30 one day before the Community Preservation Committee deadline, approved Vice Chair William Sterling's motion to fund five outdoor interpretive panels along a new linear park trail bordering the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge and historical displays in four interior cases. Chair Betsy Soule had members strike earlier figures of $61,890 and $45,752 as the request was trimmed by cutting a fifth display case. Sterling said trail construction, budgeted at up to $350,000 within the roughly $11 million community center project, may force a raised boardwalk to become an add-alternate because of inflation. Member Elizabeth Patterson said the Historical Commission declined to sponsor the request because it didn't want to be "competing with our own selves for funding." If recommended, the article goes to spring town meeting.
