Wayland subcommittee drops staff conduct rewrite, advances test-return policy draft

WAYLAND — November 30, 2022 — Wayland policy subcommittee scraps staff conduct rewrite, sends test-return draft to counsel. After roughly 18 months of work, the School Committee's Policy Subcommittee agreed Nov. 30 to recommend no substantive changes to Policy GBEB on staff conduct, after attorney Kevin warned that proposed language on insubordination, falsifying documents and off-duty conduct could conflict with state statute or trigger bargaining issues with the Wayland Teachers Association. "So we just did all that work for nothing," one member quipped. The subcommittee then took up Policy KDBA on the return of tests, a policy Superintendent Dr. Omar Easy has previously resisted, agreeing to send a draft modeled on Swampscott's policy to legal counsel for review. Member Michelle, who chaired last year's assessment task force, cautioned that any policy must distinguish unit tests, midterms, finals and copyrighted Advanced Placement exams. The meeting adjourned at 5:39 p.m.
