Wayland subcommittee tightens superintendent goals, drops unmeasurable language

WAYLAND — January 11, 2023 — Wayland subcommittee trims superintendent's goals, citing measurability. The Superintendent Evaluation Subcommittee on Jan. 11 advanced a condensed set of four performance goals for Superintendent Omar Easty after a working session between Easty and member Ellen. The biggest rewrite hit Goal 3 on leadership, where members accepted Easty's objection that "receptiveness to each other's ideas" was not measurable and dropped a reference to "divergent thinking," while keeping language on a "results-driven mindset" and communication that is "direct, open, honest and fluid" with the superintendent leadership team. The subcommittee declined to broaden the language-based program goal — currently serving about 10 students in grades two through four — to cover every eligible student, calling that a budget question, not a performance target. Members unanimously approved the Dec. 13, 2022 minutes and adjourned at 5:21 p.m.
