Wayland subcommittee adopts abbreviated evaluation for interim superintendent

WAYLAND — April 10, 2024 — Wayland subcommittee opts for self-evaluation of interim superintendent in lieu of full review. The Superintendent Evaluation Subcommittee agreed April 10 to skip the state's formal DESE evaluation framework for interim Superintendent David Fleishman, after chair Jeanne Downs consulted Glenn Koocher of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees and confirmed a full review is "not required" for an acting or interim. Fleishman will instead deliver a self-assessment on his goals at the June 5 School Committee meeting, with members marking each goal met, unmet, or ongoing rather than using tiered ratings. The subcommittee will also conduct confidential interviews with all 21 members of the administrative council — divided among five School Committee members — with responses depersonalized and synthesized before a written summary returns to the full committee on June 20. A broader community survey will be held for the permanent superintendent search.
