Wayland DPW board sends MWRA admission article to Town Meeting

WAYLAND — January 12, 2023 — Wayland DPW board unanimously advances MWRA admission article to Town Meeting. The Board of Public Works voted 5-0 Thursday to forward a warrant article titled "MWRA Admission Application Approval to Proceed," asking voters to authorize the town to pursue admission to the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority. The article seeks no town appropriation, but a separate $1.016 million water enterprise capital request is included in the fiscal 2024 plan, alongside $1 million in ARPA funds for design and permitting. Chair Cliff Lewis, members George Uveges and Mike Wegerbauer, and DPW Director Tom Holder will finalize cleanup edits; the board authorized Holder to sign in Lewis's absence. Resident Tom Sciacca warned against moving too fast, arguing MWRA "can't be totally relied on" and that federal PFAS funding will likely follow new national standards.
