Wayland Council on Aging Board races bids and Planning Board review to Town Meeting

WAYLAND — January 9, 2023 — Wayland's new senior center is 90 percent designed but faces a contested Planning Board fight. Vice Chair William Sterling told the Council on Aging Board on Jan. 9 that architects have delivered 90 percent drawings, with a bid package targeted for March 1 and an award by April 1 — just in time for spring Town Meeting. The revised site plan moves a 100-space parking lot out of the river setback and swaps a formal garden for a linear riverfront park; Sterling said the new Planning Board chair is understood to oppose the change. "I think we hope for a four-to-one vote in favor," he said. Chair Betsy Soule said she would press the Select Board, before its Jan. 17 warrant deadline, to open a placeholder article in case bids exceed contingencies. Director Julie Secord separately reported that Springwell is failing to staff approved in-home care cases for Wayland residents.
