Wayland subcommittee approves Finance Committee appointment report on 2-0 vote

WAYLAND — January 9, 2023 — Wayland subcommittee sends Finance Committee appointment report to full Select Board. The two-member Select Board Finance Committee Appointment Study Group voted 2-0 Monday to adopt its draft report as amended, with member Thomas J. Fay and Adam Kuzbizal also approving minutes from two prior meetings. The report stops short of recommending a specific appointment mechanism, leaving that call to the full board. Fay said outside researchers found no documented change in Wayland's process "in the last 100 years," a record he called more telling than the committee's 19th-century origins. Late research from resident George Harris will be folded in as a new exhibit, and language was tightened to specify the Finance Committee chair would sit "on the appointing authority." A placeholder warrant article is ready for the board's Jan. 17 meeting.
