Wayland Select Board backs shared-living housing plan for 212 Cochituate Road

WAYLAND — March 10, 2025 — Wayland Select Board lines up behind shared-living housing on town-owned Cochituate Road parcel. In a joint meeting with the Housing Partnership, Housing Authority and Human Rights, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, the board signaled unanimous support for Article Q, which would transfer the four-acre 212 Cochituate Road site — where a tax-title house was razed last week — to the board for shared-living development. Member Thomas J. Fay said the lot could accommodate two homes housing 12 to 18 adults with intellectual disabilities, with each bedroom counting toward Wayland's 10 percent affordable threshold; the article needs a two-thirds town meeting vote. Vice Chair Doug Levine called the housing "a desperately needed resource." Separately, Town Manager Michael McCall said roughly $20,000 in surveillance cameras could be funded from a newly freed $120,000 town-center gift account after a second anti-Semitic vandalism incident at the community pool. Votes on a $19,000 America 250th budget and Oct. 4 Wayland Day funding were deferred.
