Wayland building committee conditionally approves $59,479 community center change order

WAYLAND — November 6, 2024 — Wayland building committee conditionally approves $59,479 in Council on Aging changes, rejects extension bid. The Permanent Municipal Building Committee unanimously backed Change Order No. 5 — nine items including metal-roof snow guards, soil screening, a relocated septic tank and an accessible serving-pantry sink — on the condition the contractor confirm in writing no added schedule time is sought. Members sharply criticized a separate contractor claim seeking general conditions costs and a March 31 completion date, saying the firm "sandbagged" the town by failing to flag soil-pile impacts within the contract's 21-day claims window. Owner's contingency on the project is down to roughly $46,000, which one member called "very scary." Substantial completion remains February 11, 2025; the committee next meets Dec. 2.
