Wayland Board of Health approves STAR septic technology for residential development

WAYLAND — November 7, 2024 — Wayland Board of Health clears septic tech, sunroom variance and a backyard goose. The board voted unanimously Thursday to approve a STAR provisional-use septic system for a residential development — an 8,000-gallon innovative-alternative unit replacing a recirculating sand filter design — with consulting engineer Darren calling the theory "sound" and noting the oversized tank and leach field. Members Robert Defrancesco, Jonathan Storer, Genevieve Anand and Brett Mordas also granted a 60 percent rule variance at 10 Grace Road to enclose a sunroom and issued an animal-keeping permit for two ducks and one goose at 154 Boston Post Road after the originating noise complaint was withdrawn. The board authorized staff to finalize a peer review contract with DGT for the 3.3-acre Charina Farm subdivision. Health Director Julia reported the town contributed $500 to a regional gun buyback that collected roughly 20 firearms, and that nurse Michelle vaccinated about 400 residents across four clinics.
