Public Ceremonies Committee finalizes Veterans Day plans amid rain forecast

WAYLAND — November 6, 2024 — Wayland's Public Ceremonies Committee finalized Veterans Day logistics under a 50 percent rain forecast. Chair Richard P. Turner said he would haul town-owned pop-up tents from his basement to town hall Sunday, using the moment to press for dedicated storage: "I've got the sound system in his house. I've got the tents that belong to the town in my basement. I've got the bullhorn up in my closet upstairs." Capt. Ralph Ropa of the DEVCOM Soldier Center in Natick will keynote; Select Board member Carol Martin will offer remarks; Rabbi Trinkelstein will deliver the benediction. Freedom Prize awards go to students Selena Liu and a recipient identified as Davis. Member Cynthia Miller said a Loker Elementary third-grade class produced 100 hand-drawn placemats for the veterans' luncheon, which will be reused at Tuesday's Council on Aging luncheon. American Legion Post 133 Vice Commander Carl Bernardo will help lay the wreath.
