Building committee blasts contractor pace on Council on Aging project

WAYLAND — August 27, 2024 — Wayland building panel warns Council on Aging project will miss February finish without major ramp-up. The Permanent Municipal Building Committee on Tuesday told HCR City Point Partners that cumulative billings of roughly $5 million through July trail an original schedule that called for more than $9 million, and that monthly requisitions must climb above $1.5 million by October to hit the $12.5 million project's revised end date. "The dollars don't lie here, guys," one member said, citing "a lack of urgency" and final paving currently scheduled Dec. 19–26 and storefront installation pushed to January. The committee approved Change Order 4 totaling $31,907.95 and an OPM amendment of $63,270.76 plus $38,500 for testing and envelope work. A disputed $90,000 sprinkler change order was voided after the fire department signed off on the original UL-certified design.
