Wayland Personnel Board approves jury, bereavement policies; tables military leave

WAYLAND — February 11, 2025 — Wayland Personnel Board approves two non-union leave policies, defers military leave for redraft. The board voted 4-0 Tuesday to approve revised jury duty (M4-6.1) and bereavement leave (M4-5.1) policies covering roughly 30 to 50 non-union employees, but pulled back a draft military leave policy after member Paul Morenberg and Chair Maryanne Peabody noted it failed to address weekend drill obligations and longer deployments. HR Director Kate Ryan said she would redraft the policy to separately cover training and deployment. Ryan also walked members through the town's classification and compensation study RFP, capped at $60,000, with bids due Feb. 27 and a vendor decision targeted March 9; at least 11 vendors have already viewed the solicitation via COMMBUYS. "I'd really love to see Wayland have a completely new class and comp system coming out of this that will last us a good 15 to 20 years," Ryan said. The board set its next meeting for April 16.
