Building committee holds Community Center earthwork pending written soil plan

WAYLAND — November 29, 2022 — Wayland building committee withholds approval to start Community Center earthwork until soil plan is in writing. The Permanent Municipal Building Committee on Nov. 29 declined to advise the town manager to issue a notice to proceed until the licensed site professional submits a full draft soil management program beyond the Release Abatement Measure plan. The contractor has cut off-site disposal from roughly 1,400 to 500 cubic yards and says it fits within a $320,000 allowance, but members said disposal is running $150 to $250 per ton and they have "heard numbers up to a million dollars" without seeing any. The committee also flagged a Community Center HVAC line that jumped from $400,000 to about $1 million and reported the Loker Elementary roof and HVAC project is roughly $830,000 under its appropriated budget, with a $125,000-$130,000 MSBA reimbursement still expected.
