WAYLAND — April 11, 2024 — Wayland Board of Health approves two septic variances, new fee schedule and TetraTech peer reviews. The board unanimously granted a variance at 13 Pollock Road letting Emily and Carlos Bilatero build an addition before installing a new four-bedroom septic system, conditioned on no occupancy until the system is certified, and approved rear-lot-line and groundwater offset variances at 21 Sunset Road to save a 48-inch oak. Members adopted a simplified permit fee schedule built on a $300 base plus $100 per test hole and $100 per perc test, replacing a chart staff called confusing at the counter. The board also named TetraTech peer reviewer for groundwater mounding on a 60-unit affordable housing project that would tie an adjacent church and rectory into a new pressure-dosed system, and selected TetraTech at $2,100 over Meridian's $3,750 bid for the Veritas School Academy review. On draft chicken rules, members backed a likely cap of six birds on sub-acre lots and 12 on larger lots, with three square feet per bird in coops.
