Wayland senior center on track for March move-in, June 5 grand opening

WAYLAND — December 3, 2024 — Wayland's new Council on Aging building is on track for a March 31 move-in and June 5 grand opening. Board member William Sterling told the Council on Aging Board on Tuesday that site work has been punch-listed and interior painting has begun, with a pending change proposal expected to lock in early-March substantial completion. "It really is clicking together very nicely," Sterling said. Director Julie Secord said MIIA, the town's insurance pool, will allow the in-home "fix-it" volunteer program to resume if workers are sent in pairs, and has signaled support for using the council's 12-passenger van and tax work-off drivers. Reservation software and an electrified front door for QR-code access remain unresolved. Frank Kennedy floated deferring outside bookings for up to a year; Secord countered that six months of phased access was more realistic. The board next meets Jan. 6.
