Wayland Select Board sends six articles to annual town meeting warrant

WAYLAND — January 11, 2021 — Wayland Select Board advances six warrant articles and plans transfer-station overhaul. The board voted 5-0 Monday to forward articles dissolving the transfer station revolving fund, creating a new enterprise fund, and seeding it with a $50,000 to $75,000 general-fund subsidy, alongside a community-center land acquisition, a remote town-meeting special act, and an appropriation to pay a River's Edge bond anticipation note. Town Administrator Louise Miller said the revolving fund has been in violation of state benefits law for two years, and Finance Director Brian Keveny said an enterprise fund must show the Department of Revenue a balanced budget. The board also added $110,000 to the unclassified health insurance line to cover 7.4 new positions in the school superintendent's budget. Miller reported 49 new COVID-19 cases between Jan. 1 and Jan. 7 and 71 active cases. EDC Chair Rebecca Stinezzi urged the board to fund an ombudsman position, telling members residents "don't have the right to their own facts."
