Wayland Select Board votes 5-0 to close August 13 meeting for minutes review

Select Board · Meeting of August 13, 2026

Wayland Select Board convenes for nine minutes, then closes doors to review years of sealed minutes. The board voted 5-0 Thursday morning to enter executive session for a periodic review of executive session minutes spanning eight categories under MGL Chapter 30A, Section 21(a)(7), including 14 West Plain Street real estate talks, Town Manager Michael McCall's contract negotiations, collective bargaining with five town union locals, the federal opioid multidistrict litigation against CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Teva and Allergan, and the town's PFAS lawsuit against 3M. Chair Carol B.

Martin found that public discussion "may have a detrimental effect on the litigating, negotiating, or bargaining position of the Town." No public comment was offered. Member William Whitney joined at 10:08 a.m., mid-roll-call; a thumbs-up from his muted screen was ruled insufficient before his audio returned. The board did not reconvene in open session.
