Wayland Select Board hears $1.1 million shortfall forecast, signaling likely FY28 operating override
Select Board · Meeting of August 17, 2026
Wayland eyes operating override as FY28 budget forecast shows $1.1 million gap. Finance Director Brian Keveny told a joint Select Board and Finance Committee session on Aug. 17 that the town can raise roughly $120.1 million in fiscal 2028 without an override, against a level-service budget of $120.9 million, with cumulative three-year overrides potentially reaching $7.4 million. "I don't see a clear path to get us out of that," Keveny said.
Town Manager Michael McCall noted labor contracts, particularly the pending teachers' agreement, remain unsettled. The board also voted 4-0 to raise ambulance fees 20 percent effective Sept. 1, setting BLS emergency at $2,040, and approved a $18,600 Essential Partners dialogue-training contract funded from mitigation payments. The school committee will formally request an override at the board's Aug. 31 meeting.
