Wayland Select Board rewrites 40B objection letter ahead of MassHousing deadline

WAYLAND -- March 20, 2017, Wayland Select Board sharpens its objection letter to a 24 School Street 40B proposal. Meeting March 20 against a Wednesday MassHousing deadline, the board worked line-by-line through a draft prepared by the town planner and revised by the Planning Board chair, with members agreeing the second paragraph read "way too soft," in member Joe's words. Resident Josh Hyman of Coffield Road urged the board to "say right off, we object" on grounds of scale and location, while resident Holly Upton Bayfield flagged a factual error about Commonwealth Residences unit sizes. Members debated proposing a specific smaller project, the town planner suggested four units, a resident memo by Rachel and Brad recommended six to eight, citing a comparable Route 126 development that yielded eight units on twice the land. No final vote was taken.
