Wayland Select Board receives 779-signature petition against school-site bus parking

WAYLAND -- June 5, 2017, Wayland residents delivered a 779-signature petition opposing school-site bus parking. At the June 5 Select Board meeting, John Zullo of Claypit Hill Road and neighbor Sue Meinert presented written signatures plus 14 pages of online comments asking officials to drop Wayland Middle School and Claypit Hill School from consideration as parking sites for the town's bus fleet, citing diesel pollution, noise and safety. Sheila Correll of Joyce Road told the board the middle school plan would place buses within 100 feet of building air intakes, calling it "illegal in the state of Massachusetts." The board separately voted 4-0 to adopt a Race Amity Day proclamation and a tolerance pledge, approved line-item transfers of $7,500 for aqueduct pedestrian-crossing design and $12,353 for committee email addresses, and confirmed a $68,000 transfer for library drainage work. The chair said an RFP for commercial bus sites is already out.
