Wayland selectmen authorize school RFP for off-site bus parking
WAYLAND -- May 15, 2017, Wayland selectmen authorize school RFP for off-site bus parking and set Nov. 14 Special Town Meeting. The Board of Selectmen voted 5-0 Monday to let the School Committee issue and manage an RFP for leased bus-parking space, with any lease executed by selectmen and subject to town meeting appropriation; buses must vacate their current site by July 1, 2018, and the current bus company quoted $241,000 a year to keep them in-house. School Committee Chair Ellen Grifo said bids are expected by early July. Resident Mike Lowery, wearing three hats including water commissioner, called a middle-school alternative "spectacularly infeasible" because of a state-funded bioswale, an order of conditions barring parking, and the parcel's location in Zone 2 of the Happy Hollow wells. The board also set a Nov. 14 Special Town Meeting (with Nov. 15 in reserve) and adopted revised appointments policy 5-0. Town Administrator Nan Balmer said the Finance Committee will cover the library drainage shortfall with a $68,000 line-item transfer plus roughly $19,000 from reserves, and that a projected $44,000 year-end legal deficit has been pared to about $25,000.
