Wayland Select Board approves River's Edge land disposition agreement

WAYLAND -- July 24, 2017, Wayland Select Board unanimously approves River's Edge land disposition agreement. The 5-0 vote authorizes Town Administrator Nan Balmer to execute the agreement for the property at 484-490 Boston Post Road, capping roughly 14 months of negotiations following a town meeting vote to develop rental housing. Chair Carol B. Martin called it "the culmination of many years of work, but a good, solid year of negotiation," and recognized River's Edge Advisory Committee co-chairs Jerry Heller and Becky Stinezzi. The board separately approved a change of manager at the Dudley Chateau, which Police Chief Robert Irving described as "night and day" from past compliance problems, and ratified successor collective bargaining agreements with AFSCME Local 690 and Teamsters Local 170 running through June 30, 2020. More than an hour of public comment focused on a proposed soccer field at the former Nike missile site at Oxbow Meadows, with abutters citing contamination, a $400,000 cost estimate against $300,000 appropriated, and a February traffic study they called inadequate.
