Wayland Housing Authority moves to narrow Section 8 residency preferences

WAYLAND — May 8, 2025 — Wayland Housing Authority advances narrowed residency preferences as Section 8 shortfall deepens. Commissioners voted unanimously May 8 to adopt revised Section 8 administrative policies pending a public hearing, stripping parent and grandparent provisions from the local preference and leaving only Wayland residents, workers, Metco families, and court-ordered placements. Executive Director Brian Boggia said the authority has not issued a voucher "in almost two years" while running at 82 of its 81-voucher allotment, and will meet HUD's shortfall prevention team June 11; his projection puts the gap near $60,000 against HUD's $88,000 estimate. The board re-elected Susan Weinstein chair and John Thomas vice chair, elected Denise treasurer, and approved bill warrants of $133,202.59 for March and $76,087.94 for April. Boggia reported a "perfect 10" on the authority's latest HUD accounting score.
