Wayland Finance Committee Appointing Board elects Karlson chair for FY26

WAYLAND — September 18, 2025 — Wayland Finance Committee Appointing Board elects Karlson chair amid two open seats. The three-member board — Cherry C. Karlson, Carol B. Martin and Miranda S. Jones — voted 3-0 Thursday to install Karlson as chair for the remainder of FY26 after Jones declined, saying "I have zero interest in this chair." Karlson reported one active candidate researching the role and two vacancies on the Finance Committee following the resignation of Michael Hoyle, with terms expiring in 2027 and 2028. Pam Roman is continuing past her term until replaced. Karlson said town-meeting materials have grown unwieldy, noting "when you hand someone a 130-page nonfiction book and they've got to read it in two weeks, I'm not sure that we're accomplishing our goal." The board also approved its annual report 3-0 and adjourned at 3:46 p.m.
