Wayland CPC opens fiscal 2026 funding cycle with Nov. 13 deadline

WAYLAND — October 8, 2025 — Wayland's Community Preservation Committee canvasses town needs ahead of Nov. 13 funding deadline. Chair Susan Weinstein opened a public informational hearing Wednesday under town code 75-3, with no applications yet filed for fiscal 2026 CPA money. Weinstein said the Affordable Housing Trust is advancing 11 Hammond Road with Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester, expected to be built within a year and sold to a first-time buyer. Historical Commission rep Katherine Gardner Wescott reported the cemetery contractor has finished about 36 percent of more than 4,000 gravestones and wants to break the contract, citing costs and illness; counsel has advised withholding the final payment. Vice-Chair Doug Stotz pitched buying trail easements from roughly 36 Chapter 61A/61B landowners, calling outright purchases "few and far between." The committee voted unanimously to close the hearing.
