Wayland CPC rejects Heard Pond herbicide request, redirects housing contract

WAYLAND — November 19, 2025 — Wayland CPC begins triage on 10 applications ahead of Dec. 15 warrant deadline. Chair Susan Weinstein's committee voted unanimously to strike the Regional Housing Services Office's $40,000 two-year contract from the spring warrant, directing it to the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, and ruled a recurring Heard Pond herbicide treatment ineligible under the Community Preservation Act. The state will send Wayland $202,000 this cycle. Eliza J. Norton Foundation co-chair Steve Schamberg detailed a Cochituate Ballpark plan following $275,000 in prior foundation investment and a previous $154,000 CPA award; member Maureen Cavanaugh pressed for a playground that would be "a star of Wayland and of the MetroWest area" for children with disabilities. Vice-Chair Doug Stotz reported the town's cemetery preservation contract was terminated by mutual agreement with priority-one stones 60 percent complete.
