Wayland community center demolition bid comes in $30,000 under estimate

WAYLAND — November 7, 2022 — Wayland's future community center clears a demolition bid roughly $30,000 under estimate. Council on Aging Vice Chair William Sterling told the board Monday that the interior demolition contract was awarded for under $95,000 against a $125,000 estimate, with the contractor allowed to salvage 22-year-old daycare fixtures because "no public bidder would reuse them." A 50 percent construction document set has gone to the Permanent Municipal Building Committee, hearings before the Planning Board and Conservation Commission were set for later in the week, and construction is expected to begin in spring and run about 18 months. Director Julie reported a new $35,000 medical transportation grant, roughly 400 scheduled SHINE appointments, and that the long-vacant departmental assistant position was reposted after about 80 earlier applicants went uncontacted by Human Resources.
