Wayland COA Board expects Planning Board to clear senior center Wednesday

WAYLAND — August 7, 2023 — Wayland Council on Aging expects Wednesday Planning Board approval to clear senior center for bidding. Vice Chair William Sterling told the board Monday that planners took a straw vote approving the project as amended and that consultant Robert Hummel has drafted the written decision for the 7 p.m. hearing. The Conservation Commission has verbally signed off, and Town Manager Michael McCall was credited with brokering compromises with abutters at a neighboring condominium. Sterling called it "the last major hurdle before we go out to bid" and urged officials to place a contingency article on any fall special town meeting warrant in case bids exceed the appropriation, citing options such as a metal roof in lieu of asphalt shingles. Members also unanimously approved June 5 minutes and set their next meeting for Sept. 12.
