Wayland building committee seeks $400,000 more for Old Stone Bridge
WAYLAND — November 28, 2023 — Wayland's Permanent Municipal Building Committee will ask for $400,000 more to finish the Old Stone Bridge. The bridge has been bid four times without a signed contract — $428,000 in 2019, $497,000 in 2021, $472,000 in 2022 and a $766,000 low bid this year against competing bids above $1.5 million. About $780,000 in Community Preservation Act funds is already appropriated, with the new request due to the CPA Thursday and headed to May town meeting. Members called the project "singularly, by far, the worst managed" the committee has handled. Separately, Kim Tracy reported the town executed an $8,829,000 contract with Tower Construction for the community center on Nov. 21, leaving roughly $597,000 in contingency within the $12.52 million appropriation.
