Wayland Housing Partnership backs shared living article for 2024 town meeting

WAYLAND — November 29, 2023 — Wayland Housing Partnership pivots Hammond Road build to Habitat after $1M bid. Chair Mary Antes told members the Affordable Housing Trust rejected the sole construction bid and will issue an RFP, with Greater Worcester/Greater Boston Habitat for Humanity expected to deliver a three-bedroom home for about $400,000 and resell it near $240,000 at 60 percent AMI; responses are due Feb. 1. A separate ad hoc group led by Planning Director Robert Hummel is drafting a town meeting article to transfer the four-acre foreclosed parcel at 212 Cochituate Road to the trust for a shared living home, with the Select Board taking it up Dec. 18. Member Rachel Bratt urged deferring local ADU bylaw work pending Gov. Maura Healey's housing bill and House Bill 1379, saying, "We don't want to be negotiating against ourselves." The partnership meets in person Dec. 11 to hear designer Win Millet's new Shaw Drive concept before the Planning Board's MBTA Communities forum.
