Wayland building committee endorses specialized stretch code for new construction

WAYLAND — January 30, 2024 — Wayland building committee endorses specialized stretch code and absorbs new Council on Aging cost requests. The Permanent Municipal Building Committee voted 4-0 on Jan. 30 to endorse a town meeting warrant article adopting the state's specialized stretch energy code for new construction, after a presentation by Sustainability Manager Abby Shute and Energy and Climate Committee co-chair Alan Toomey. If approved May 13, the code takes effect Jan. 1, 2025, joining 32 other Massachusetts communities including Weston and Concord. The committee also reviewed a $216,861 additional-services request from OPM City Point Partners on the Community Center project, plus roughly $20,000 in change orders, against a remaining contingency of about $557,000. One member said the OPM had "chewed up a third of our contingency for themselves before we've put a shovel in the ground." Stone's Bridge gained another $400,000 in CPA funding, bringing the total to $1.18 million.
