Wayland building committee endorses specialized stretch code for May town meeting

WAYLAND — January 30, 2024 — Wayland building committee endorses specialized stretch code ahead of May town meeting. The Permanent Municipal Building Committee voted 4-0 Tuesday to endorse a town meeting article adopting the optional specialized stretch energy code "on its merits and application for future municipal projects," following a presentation by Sustainability Manager Abby Schutt and Energy and Climate Committee co-chair Alan Tome. Schutt called the code, which applies only to new construction, "designed to be an easy yes," noting 32 Massachusetts communities have already adopted it and that 58 percent of Wayland's emissions come from buildings. The committee also approved up to $68,242 for Weston and Sampson Amendment No. 5 on the Loker grass field, and reviewed a $216,861 additional-services request from City Point, the OPM on the Council on Aging center, which one member said had "chewed up a third of our contingency … before we've put a shovel in the ground."
