Wayland Audit Committee sets winter calendar, approves June minutes

WAYLAND — November 29, 2022 — Wayland Audit Committee maps fiscal 2023 audit cycle and benchmarks itself against peer towns. Chair Klaus Shigley convened a deliberately light Nov. 29 meeting to set the stage for a January-or-February review of the draft ACFR and management letter from auditor Melanson. Finance Director Brian Keveney told the committee that cash has been reconciled through August — two months ahead of where the town has historically been — and predicted the long-running material-weakness finding "would simply go away." A new treasurer hired through Accountemps has closed July and August herself, with the audit firm now verifying her work one day a month. A peer-town survey assigned over the summer found only three of 11 communities reviewed — Westwood, Hingham and Sharon — operate standing audit committees; Hingham's charter requires an RFP every nine years, though it rebids every three. Members approved June 7 minutes 5-0 and adjourned before 7 p.m.
