Audit Committee approves Select Board report, pushes schools toward warrant process

WAYLAND — February 10, 2025 — Wayland Audit Committee approves FY24 report and urges schools to join the town warrant process. The three-member committee voted 3-0 Monday to send the Select Board a report recommending the student activity fund route disbursements through the town's weekly warrant cycle — which Finance Director Brian Keveney said runs roughly 48 times a year — or, failing that, undergo a checkbook audit every three years as DESE recommends. The cash reconciliation issue flagged last year is "no longer deemed a material weakness," the draft states, though student activity items remain. Members also endorsed a one-year CBIZ engagement for FY25 and an RFP for FY26-28 to be issued by end of April, and noted the town has allocated $58,000 for a single-trash-hauler study. Roughly $500,000 in old guaranteed deposits remains to be resolved.
