Wayland Audit Committee approves annual reports flagging reconciliation backlog
Audit Committee · Meeting of August 11, 2026
Wayland Audit Committee approves annual reports and warns of quorum cliff. The three-member body, meeting remotely August 11, voted 3-0 to approve its annual report to the Select Board and a companion report for town publication, both flagging the conservation and building departments as holding the largest unreconciled account balances. Chair Michael German said he would carry the reports to the Select Board; member Klaus Shigley, recently reappointed by the Finance Committee, urged German to coordinate first with the finance director on a proposal to cross-appoint two FinCom members to fill audit-committee vacancies.
Any structural change would require amending Chapter 19 of the town code. Member Yutian Zhang said he was undecided about seeking reappointment; two of the committee's five seats are already vacant. "I don't think the finance committee of seven should turn into the audit committee," the finance director told members.
