WAYLAND — November 30, 2022 — Wayland Conservation Commission orders peer review of 60-unit Mahoney's housing project. The commission voted unanimously Nov. 30 to retain an independent stormwater consultant to evaluate developer Dean Hickey's four-story, 60-unit Chapter 40B proposal at 113-115 Boston Post Road, citing discharge concerns for the cold-water Pine Brook fishery. Project consultant Rich Kirby of LEC said the redesign pulls the building to 136 feet from the brook versus 39 feet today and adds 76,800 square feet of riverfront mitigation, with wastewater treatment producing water "by orders of magnitude cleaner" than a traditional septic system. Planning Board member Dan Hill, speaking personally, pressed for a hydrologist, noting treated effluent still typically carries "10 milligrams per liter of nitrogen and four milligrams per liter of phosphorus." Member Luke Legere recused; the hearing continues Dec. 21 after a Dec. 13 site walk. The commission also approved a waiver and order of conditions for a commercial rebuild at 233 Boston Post Road by Dr. Miguel Ortiz and returned a $750 performance guarantee on 10 Greenway Drive.
