Wayland subcommittee advances policy requiring return of student tests
WAYLAND — April 6, 2023 — Wayland subcommittee sends test-return policy to full School Committee with January 2024 review baked in. The Policy Subcommittee voted unanimously Thursday to forward draft policy KDBA, which would require teachers to return graded student work, answers and test questions, while excluding mid-year and final exams. Members Jessica Salvatore and Erin Buckmaster agreed to revisit the mid-year and finals exclusion in January 2024. Director of Teaching, Learning and Innovation Michelle Kroll, who chaired a district task force on the issue, defended keeping cumulative exams out, saying the district must provide "the proper support for teachers." Two residents pressed for broader return, with one declaring, "because we've always done it this way, it's a disservice to kids." The subcommittee also forwarded a separate policy setting The Children's Way class size at 15.
