Wayland policy panel drafts new test-return rule for January review

WAYLAND — December 14, 2022 — Wayland policy subcommittee drafts new test-return rule, schedules January follow-up. The School Committee's Policy Subcommittee on Dec. 14 began work on policy KDBA, which would require tests, quizzes and papers to be "corrected in a timely manner and returned for students to see," while allowing departments to retain midterms and finals. Members said math is already returning end-of-unit assessments and science will follow in January once new test banks are written, with biology lagging. One member called the existing procedure to view retained exams — routed through the principal and department head — "asinine" and "not conducive to learning." The panel approved minutes from three prior meetings, agreed to invite the high school math and science department heads on Jan. 11, and separately took up revisions to the school council policy, including a return to two-year staggered terms and a reduction in required meetings from six to four.
