Wayland selectmen plan summer outreach on town manager special act
WAYLAND -- June 11, 2018, Wayland selectmen plan summer outreach on a town manager special act. The Board of Selectmen on Monday reviewed a draft presentation that members will bring to individual boards and committees, framing the proposal as two changes: rebalancing the budget process and consolidating town-side departments under a strengthened town manager. Selectman Lee said Wayland is "a functional, financially strong town, not because of our structure, but in spite of our structure," and the board agreed to forward the draft act to town counsel to assess interaction with Chapters 19 and 60. Town Administrator Nan Balmer reported 22 applications in the search for her successor, with consultant Bernie Lynch of Community Paradigm expecting 25 to 30. The board voted 5-0 to approve May 23 minutes and 5-0 on a consent calendar accepting a $38,000 community compact IT grant for permit-software planning.
